Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup steel-cut oats
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (adjust to taste)
  • 1 medium-sized apple, peeled, cored, and chopped
  • 1 teaspoon almond butter (or more to taste)
  • Optional toppings: a drizzle of honey, a sprinkle of chopped nuts (e.g., almonds, walnuts, or pecans), and a few raisins or dried cranberries

Instructions

 

  1. Prepare the Steel-Cut Oats:
    • In a medium saucepan, bring the
      water to a boil over high heat.
    • Once boiling, add the steel-cut
      oats and reduce the heat to low.
    • Simmer the oats, uncovered, for
      about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they reach your desired
      level of tenderness and thickness.
  2. Add Cinnamon:
      • About halfway through the cooking
        process, add the ground cinnamon to the oats.
      • Stir it in well to evenly
        distribute the cinnamon flavor.
  3. Add Chopped Apple:
    • In the last 5-7 minutes of
      cooking, add the chopped apple to the oatmeal.
    • Continue to simmer until the
      apples are tender but not mushy.
  4. Serve the Oatmeal:
    • Once the oatmeal is cooked to your
      liking, remove it from heat.
    • Spoon the oatmeal into a serving
      bowl.
  5. Add Almond Butter:
    • While the oatmeal is still hot,
      place a teaspoon of almond butter on top.
    • The heat of the oatmeal will help
      soften and melt the almond butter, making it easier to mix in.
  6. Optional Toppings:
    • If desired, drizzle a bit of honey
      over the oatmeal for extra sweetness.
    • Sprinkle with your choice of
      chopped nuts (e.g., almonds, walnuts, or pecans) and add a few raisins or
      dried cranberries for added texture and flavor.
  7. Stir and Enjoy:
    • Gently stir all the ingredients
      together to incorporate the almond butter and toppings.
    • Taste and adjust the sweetness or
      cinnamon level to your liking.
  8. Serve Hot:
    • Your delicious steel-cut oatmeal
      with cinnamon, chopped apple, and almond butter is ready to be enjoyed.
