Subcortical ischemic vascular disease (SIVD), driven by cerebral small vessel disease, is commonly characterized by white matter hyperintensities and multiple lacunar infarcts, and a substantial proportion of patients gradually develop cognitive decline and progress to subcortical vascular cognitive impairment (SVCI).
